Pre-K and Kindergarten
Veritas Christian Academy is an educational community which is Classical and Christ-centered. Veritas is dedicated to providing children a quality education in the tradition of Western culture and historic biblical Christianity. The Classical approach is based on a liberal-arts curriculum, engaging all students in the study of Mathematics, Science, History (as opposed to social-studies), Literature, Writing, and Bible. Learning is enhanced through the study of art and music, the art of oral recitation, and physical education. Art, Music, and P.E. are built into the curriculum from Pre-K all the way through 8th Grade, at which point they are offered as Electives.
Pre-Kindergarten students at VCA are engaged in fun, active, hands-on learning. Our curriculum was developed to teach readiness in reading, writing, and math while stimulating the students' natural curiosity to learn more about the world around them. Our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum makes learning fun. The Pre-K day begins with all our other students at 8:00am, but the Pre-K students are dismissed at 2:30pm.
During the Kindergarten year, students begin to adjust to daily routines and acquire greater independence. Spalding, a phonetics-based reading curriculum, is employed to train students to listen and spell correctly, to decode words, and to impart handwriting skills. Saxon Math provides the foundation needed to understand number relationships and to master math facts. Through stories and activities, students learn about famous people, important dates and events, and life-shaping truths in History and Bible. Teachers utilize guided hands-on experiments to enable students to explore the world that God has created and to ignite enthusiasm for the study of Science. In every area of the curriculum, the multi-sensory aproach to learning is integrated through song, memorization, role-playing, creative projects, and fine-motor activities. Again, Kindergarteners begin their day at 8:00 as well, and are dismissed at 2:45pm.
In Pre-K and Kindergarten, unit studies, learning centers, and field trips enhance the curriculum in each subject area. Students investigate their world in a safe, structured, loving environment shaped by Christian principles and grace-filled training. While studying and exploring everything from apples to outer space, students are acquiring a firm foundation in every subject area and the tools needed to become successful lifelong learners.
Veritas Christian Academy has a strong commitment to the family. Parents are actively involved in the education of their children and are a visible part of our school community. Parents have opportunities to volunteer in the classroom, to become active in our Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), to drive on field trips, to serve Hot Lunch, and to serve on various school committees. Parents are encouraged to enjoy student presentations and to share in their child's achievements.
We are blessed to have a truly exceptional faculty at Veritas. Our teachers are experienced, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and give loving, personal attention to each child. Their goal is to challenge each child to reach his or her full potential. The small student-teacher ratio of one teacher to no more than ten children enables our faculty to know each student's God-given personality, abilities and talents.
Veritas Christian Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of our educational policies, tuition assistance programs, athletics, or any other school-administered programs.
